Riding Solo

This last weekend I took my first solo trip. It wasn't super far or long, just a day trip to Venice, but it was great day. I would 100% recommend seeing Venice if you're planning a trip to Italy. It was one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to. Every corner you turn there's a new bridge that takes you across a canal with a gondola floating by and lined with colorful buildings. This was the perfect unplanned day, and I'm glad I got to do it alone. The weird part of traveling alone is every choice you make is solely your own. Overall I had a great day, but there were a few things I missed and wished I would've gotten to, but that's no ones fault but my own.

I didn't plan out my day, and I don't regret doing that because it was relaxing to wander around the streets of Venice and taking in whatever I happened to stumble upon. I would say my lesson learned would be to make at least a list of things that I want to see within the short 10 hours I am somewhere. There's no need to have a set plan or cram a lot in, especially in Venice, but knowing what's there and a general map in your head of where to go is always a good idea.

The biggest pro I found of traveling alone, was when I got hungry, wanted to stop and sit or look at something, I just did it. I didn't have to consult my friends or see if anyone else wanted to as well, I could simply do what I wanted when I wanted. Don't get me wrong having company around and friends to experience it all with is definitely more fun, but I would suggest experiencing somethings on your own if you're going abroad. It may seem scary or outside your comfort zone, but that's the point of traveling in a foreign country: learn something about culture and yourself. Be a little selfish for a couple hours, you won't regret it.
